Since my life is much more boring now than what it was while in Africa, I figured I’d pass along a couple of links of friends who are still in Addis and blogging about it. These are from my friends Josh, Sarah, Maren and Bethany. They have been volunteering with an org in Addis (Hope Enterprises) for the [...]

domesticity
Posted in Uncategorized on May 28, 2008 | 4 Comments »
So, one of the benefits of my “time off” right now is that I get to work on some of my domestic skills. I have found myself making dinner for my parents and I whenever I have the chance to, and I have some rhubarb sitting on the counter just waiting to be baked into [...]

Can I just say how wonderful it is to spend a few days in the middle of nowhere on a farm?!?! I think it is like pure rest for the soul. I can’t tell you how nice it was to wake up to sunny skies, green grass and corn fields EVERYWHERE you looked, baby farm animals and not having to wear make-up [...]

This week has been great. I left Duluth on Monday afternoon and have been drifting around from place to place since then. And, by place to place I mean visiting friends in various corners of the Twin Cities and now Southern MN, Fulda to be exact. It has been great to see some friends and see things like [...]

Some wise friends gave me a Netflix subscription for my birthday last month and it has been great…I mean, if I am going to be sitting around my house recuperating, why not get caught up on movies I have missed? I had the pleasure of watching the film Sweet Land last night and in my opinion, it [...]

…all make me happy. Good thing I’ve been able to experience each of them recently!
So, yesterday was a fun day for me. For the first time since before my accident, I was actually able to DO something that somehow resembled work. Now, I am by no means a work-a-holic or anything, but I do enjoy being [...]
Witnessing the food chain
Posted in Uncategorized on May 13, 2008 | 2 Comments »
One of the things that I most miss about being in Ethiopia, in retrospect, is seeing herds of goats, sheep, cows, oxen or donkeys hurry past me along the road or going to the market and seeing chickens in a little coup. I enjoyed having to actually see the food chain in action. (I know my vegetarian friends might [...]

First off, a sort of belated Happy Mother’s Day to all of the wonderful mothers who find themselves reading this. Your self-giving love, support and encouragement are incredibly appreciated, even though probably not adequately recognized all of the time. I am fortunate that I was able to spend Mother’s Day with my mom. In fact, I’ve [...]
